Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff der Nichtregierungsorganisationen oder Non-Governmental Organizations, kurz NGOs, hat seinen Ursprung im Umfeld der Vereinten Nationen (UNO), die ihn 1945 in den Artikel 71 ihrer Charta aufnahm. Hier wurde festgelegt, dass NGOs von der UNO zu Beratungszwecken akkreditiert werden können. Mittlerweile versteht man unter dem Begriff gemeinhin zivilgesellschaftliche Vereinigungen, die weder direkt vom Staat noch von der Wirtschaft abhängen.
