Husserl war nicht nur ein Vielschreiber philosophischer Texte, sondern auch ein fleißiger, manchmal leidenschaftlicher und zum Pathos neigender Briefschreiber. Zehn Bände umfasst seine Korrespondenz, die 1994 von Karl Schuhmann in Verbindung mit Elisabeth Schuhmann herausgegeben wurde (Hua Dok III/1–10). Von den insgesamt 2018 Schriftstücken in dieser »Gesamtausgabe der Briefe von und an Husserl« (Hua Dok III/1, IX) waren zuvor nur etwa ein Zehntel veröffentlicht, darunter die Korrespondenz Husserls mit Gottlob Frege, Roman Ingarden, Alexius Meinong, Georg Simmel und Thomas Masaryk.
