Zusammenfassung
Die von Sebald gegebenen Interviews heben sich aus drei Gründen von vielen anderen Schriftstellerinterviews ab. Da er sich in seinen Essays und seinen Zürcher Poetikvorlesungen hauptsächlich mit ›fremder‹ Literatur beschäftigt, sind die Interviews erstens der Ort, an dem sich dieser Autor so explizit und ausführlich wie sonst nirgends über das eigene Schreiben äußert. Zweitens erzeugen Sebalds autofiktionale Prosabände mit ihrem bisweilen W. G. Sebald genannten Erzähler ein besonderes Bedürfnis, im Interview das Mischungsverhältnis von Fakten und Fiktionen zu bestimmen.
