Zusammenfassung

Die Affektwissenschaft (affective science; manchmal auch affective sciences) ist in ähnlich interdisziplinärer Weise mit dem wissenschaftlichen Studium affektiver Phänomene befasst wie die Kognitionswissenschaft mit dem Studium kognitiver Phänomene. Darüber hinaus ergänzt sie die Kognitionswissenschaft in vielen Gegenstandsbereichen, da sich gezeigt hat, dass zahlreiche vermeintlich rein kognitive Leistungen nicht vollständig verstanden werden können, wenn man sich auf eine kognitive Perspektive im engen Sinne beschränkt und das Affektive unberücksichtigt lässt; dies gilt u. a. für Fähigkeiten wie Aufmerksamkeit (s. Kap. IV.1), Entscheiden (s. Kap. IV.6), Erinnern (s. Kap. IV.7), Träumen (s. Kap. IV.22), das Verfolgen von Zielen (s. Kap. IV.23) und Wahrnehmen (s. Kap. IV.24).
