Abstract
The fifty-year history of the IFToMM Italy community is outlined by referring to main personalities, who determined its significant development with a scientific-technological impact. Italian IFToMMists with characteristic IFToMM spirit and activity are also recognized internationally for their activities and results in several MMS fields not only within IFToMM frames. The personal and professional characteristics in research and teaching of the personalities are reported in the paper with examples in an illustrative approach that can still be considered an inspiration for future generations.
