Abstract
The shape of the length-tension relation has always been regarded as a critical issue vis a vis the validity of the cross-bridge theory. The classical work published by Gordon, Huxley and Julian (J. Physiol. 184: 170, 1966) demonstrated that the measured and predicted shapes were remarkably coincident; so much so, that this work has become one of the pivotal pieces of evidence supporting the cross-bridge theory.
