Abstract
Further progress in nuclear power engineering to large extent will depend on the solution of two basic problems: improvement of the safety level and on the efficient transmutation of the long-lived radioactive waste. Possible solutions of these problems consist in the construction of subcritical systems capable to multiply neutrons from an external source.
