It is shown that the divergent parts of the second-order radiative corrections to the axial vector coupling constant (in neutron β-decay) do not satisfy universality.

We assume that theSchwinger terms are C-numbers. (This is of course true in the model of the algebra of fields.)
There are of course other diagrams giving corrections to this decay (see ref. (7)) but these are independent of the strong interactions and in the limit of zero momentum transfer are the same in β-decay and μ-decay.
