Abstract
A study has been made of the effects of reverted austenite on the mechanical properties and toughness of three maraging steels. It is found that reverted austenite has no detrimental effects on the mechanical properties and toughness and even improves these properties when precipitated along martensite lath boundaries. This occurs for underaged specimens. A detrimental effect on toughness is found when reverted austenite precipitates at prior austenitic grain boundaries which occurs for over aged specimens. Overaged precipitates are also responsible for the decrease in toughness in the overaged condition.
