Abstract
An operator is derived for the electric quadrupole-quadrupole interaction between the unfilled shell of a paramagnetic ion and the nucleus of this ion. Calculations are carried out for certain iron-group and rare-earth ions. The cases in which this interaction can be reflected in the hyperfine structure of the ESR spectrum are discussed.
