Zusammenfassung
Krebserkrankungen gehören mit zu den häufigsten Todesursachen weltweit. Mehr als 2 Mio. Frauen werden jährlich mit Brust- und Gebärmutterhalskrebs diagnostiziert. Mit einer prognostizierten Wachstumsrate von 64 % zwischen 2020 und 2040 werden maligne Tumore die öffentliche Gesundheit zunehmend belasten. Eine wachsende und älter werdende Bevölkerung, Rauchen, Übergewicht, Bewegungsmangel und Virusinfektionen sind die dabei wichtigsten Ursachen bei der Zunahme von Krebserkrankungen.
Besonders in Ländern mit niedrigem und mittlerem Einkommen (LIMCs) trägt Krebs zum Teufelskreis der Armut bei. Gleichwohl es für Brust- und Gebärmutterhalskrebs bewährte und kosteneffiziente Behandlungsmöglichkeiten gibt, ist der Zugang dazu für viele Frauen unerreichbar.
Diese Ungleichheiten machen deutlich, dass in LIMCs dringend nachhaltige Investitionen – von der Prävention bis zur Palliativversorgung, und in die Entwicklung hochwertiger bevölkerungsbezogener Krebsregister – erforderlich sind.
