Zusammenfassung
Die Prävalenz der Schwerhörigkeit ist stark vom Alter abhängig: Sie steigt von 1:1000 bei Geburt zu etwa 1:3 bis 1:4 im Alter von 65 Jahren an. Daran wird leicht die Bedeutung von Genen und Umweltfaktoren im Allgemeinen erkennbar. Zugleich zeigt sich in Bezug auf jede einzelne Person das Zusammenspiel von genetischer Prädisposition und auslösenden oder begünstigenden Umweltfaktoren.
