Zusammenfassung
Arbeitslosigkeit führt zu einer Einschränkung der psychischen Gesundheit. Die Stärke des Effekts ist von mittlerer Größe, was einer Verdoppelung des Anteils von Menschen mit behandlungsbedürftigen Störungen unter Arbeitslosen im Vergleich zu Erwerbstätigen entspricht. Vermittelt wird der Effekt zum einen durch finanzielle Probleme, aber auch durch Einschränkungen hinsichtlich der sog. latenten Funktionen der Erwerbsarbeit (Zeitstruktur, Sozialkontakt, kollektive Ziele, Status und Aktivität), die der Stellenverlust verursacht. Als Moderatoren wirken u. a. das Geschlecht, die Art der letzten Beschäftigung, das Alter sowie die Dauer der Arbeitslosigkeit. Es finden sich auch Länderunterschiede, z. B. hinsichtlich der Großzügigkeit des Arbeitslosenunterstützungssystems. Die Zunahme von Zeitarbeit sowie Outplacement-Beratung sind aktuelle Entwicklungen, die die Reintegration Arbeitsloser möglicherweise verbessern können. Mit psychologischer Expertise entwickelte Trainings für Arbeitslose zeigen zum Teil sehr ermutigende Ergebnisse.
