Zusammenfassung
Oft sind im Rahmen der quantitativen empirischen Forschung Sachverhalte aus Forschungsfragen und Hypothesen so allgemein bzw. mehrdeutig formuliert, dass sie nicht direkt messbar sind (z. B. Sachverhalte wie „gesellschaftliche Teilhabe“ oder „Mobbing“). Sie müssen erst operationalisiert werden, das heißt, es sind genaue Angaben dazu erforderlich, wie ein Sachverhalt gemessen werden soll (vgl. auch Diaz- Bone, Kapitel 6 in diesem Band). Indikatoren, kurz gesagt sind dies Anzeiger für Sachverhalte, spielen hierbei eine zentrale Rolle.
