Das Wahlverhalten der Mitte. Ein Rechtsruck in Folge der Fluchtbewegung?

Abstract

Dieser Beitrag gibt auf Basis von AUTNES-Befragungsdaten einen Überblick, wie die österreichische Mittelschicht seit 2008 – mit besonderem Fokus auf 2017 und 2019 – bei Nationalratswahlen gewählt hat, welche politischen Positionen sie vertrat und welche Themen wichtig für sie waren. Empirisch ließen sich nur geringfügige soziostrukturelle Unterschiede feststellen. Die Ergebnisse zeigten vielmehr, dass die ökonomische Mitte kein eindeutiges politisches Profil aufweist und individuelle Einstellungen und Themenagenden wichtiger für das Wahlverhalten waren als die Schichtzugehörigkeit.

    Da keine exakten Einkommensdaten für das jährliche Haushaltseinkommen (Abfrage in Kategorien, unklar ob Befragte Sonderzahlungen berücksichtigen etc.) vorliegen, Befragte zur Unterschätzung des Einkommens neigen und für 2017 und 2019 keine Daten zum Medianeinkommen auf Basis der verwendeten OECD-Äquivalenzskala vorliegen, wurde die Mittelschicht in dieser Studie auf Basis des empirischen Medianeinkommens innerhalb der einzelnen Befragungen bestimmt. Resultate auf Basis der Median-Äquivalenznettoeinkommen laut EU-SILC/ECHP (Eurostat 2019) und auf Basis einer abweichenden Mittelschichtsdefinition (mittlere drei Einkommensquintile; z. B. OECD 2015) unterscheiden sich nicht signifikant von den hier vorgestellten Ergebnissen.
