Zusammenfassung

iPhone und Becel pro-active Margarine – die auf den ersten Blick eher wenig verwandten Produkte haben eine Sache gemeinsam: Sie sind Produktinnovationen aus Konvergenzentwicklungen. Bekanntlich verhelfen Innovationen dem Unternehmen ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit gegenüber der Konkurrenz zu sichern und leisten einen wichtigen Beitrag zum wirtschaftlichen Wachstum (Ritter & Gemünden, 1999: 387-388; Salomo et al., 2007: 217). Verschiedene Faktoren wie Globalisierung des Wettbewerbs, sich kontinuierlich verändernde Kundenanforderungen und kürzere Innovationszyklen machen es erforderlich, dass Unternehmen sich rechtzeitig sowohl über den aktuellen Stand der Forschung im eigenen Tätigkeitsbereich als auch über aufkommende Trends in benachbarten Disziplinen informieren (Salomo et al., 2007: 285-286).
