Zusammenfassung
Übergewicht und Adipositas sind weit verbreitet und gehen mit einer deutlichen Steigerung des Gesundheitsrisikos einher. Auf dem Hintergrund einer Gen-Umwelt-Interaktion ist die Ätiologie der Adipositas multifaktoriell, wobei die Hyperalimentation und körperliche Inaktivität als Ausdruck des rasanten technischen Fortschritts der letzten Jahrzehnte maßgeblich an der pandemischen Ausbreitung der Adipositas beteiligt sind. Die Prävalenz psychischer Störungen ist insbesondere bei Frauen mit Adipositas erhöht. Obwohl phylogenetisch sinnvoll, führt eine Umwelt, die Schlankheit mit Schönheit, Gesundheit, körperlicher und geistiger Leistungsfähigkeit assoziiert, zu einer Stigmatisierung adipöser Menschen. Die Folge sind psychische Symptome und Störungen. Umgekehrt können seelische Probleme bis hin zu dem Vollbild einer psychischen Störung zu einer Veränderung des Ess- und Bewegungsverhaltens führen, deren Folge eine anhaltende positive Energiebilanz mit Übergewicht und Adipositas ist.
