Zusammenfassung

Der kanadische Multikulturalismus gilt Vielen – in Politik und Wissenschaft, aber auch bei den Betroffenen – als Erfolgsmodell – normativ exportfähig oder doch zumindest in Ansätzen übertragbar in andere Gesellschaften postnationaler Konstellation. Orientiert an der Leitfrage „Was hält Gesellschaften zusammen?“, geht es im Folgenden – im Anspruch sehr viel bescheidener – primär um Deskription – und zwar mittels makroskopischer Draufsicht auf ein Land, dessen Zusammenhalt in Anbetracht widriger Rahmenbedingungen und tief greifender gesellschaftlicher cleavages stets höchst prekär gewesen ist und das heute dennoch nach den USA und der Schweiz die drittälteste föderale Demokratie der Moderne ist
