Zusammenfassung
Spätestens seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre ist international ein substanzieller Bedeutungszuwachs der Krisenkommunikationsforschung zu verzeichnen. Dies deuten die Zunahme an Veröffentlichungen in Fachzeitschriften (An & Cheng 2010) und die zunehmende akademische Institutionalisierung an. In der englischsprachigen PR-Forschung wird das Management der Krisenkommunikation bereits als bedeutendste Subdisziplin eingestuft (Coombs 2010a). Gespeist wird dieser Relevanzgewinn regelmäßig auch durch verheerende Krisenfälle mit z. T. internationalen Ausmaßen und das desaströse Krisenmanagement der involvierten Organisationen.
