Zusammenfassung

Die Handschrift Adv. MS. 72. 1. 37 der National Library of Scotland wurde zwischen 1512 und 1526 vom Geistlichen James MacGregor und seinem Bruder Duncan kompiliert, nach denen sie „Buch des Dekans von Lios Mór“ genannt wird. Die Sammlung ist neben ihrer bardischen Dichtung und höfischer Liebesdichtung vor allem für ihre 27 heroischen Balladen bekannt, zumeist über den in der ganzen gälischen Welt gefeierten Helden Finn, womit sie in der Tradition der Finn- oder ossianischen Dichtung steht (vgl. Acallam na Senórach, Duanaire Finn). Daneben enthält sie noch Verse in schottischer und lateinischer Sprache, eine schottische Chronik und satirische Verse.
