Zusammenfassung
Die Geschichte von Ceyx und Alcyone (met. 11, 410–748) gehört zu den längsten und komplexesten der Metamorphosen, weshalb es nicht wundert, dass man in der Rezeptionsgeschichte häufiger Aufarbeitungen einzelner Momente als solchen der ganzen Episode begegnet. Eine wichtige Ausnahme bildet Geoffrey Chaucers The Book of the Duchess (ca. 1368), in dem aber die Verwandlung des Ehepaares in Eisvögel ausbleibt (Fantham 1979, 341). Die Beschreibung des Seesturms, in dem Ceyx seinen Tod findet, gilt als Muster für die spätere epische Literatur.
