Abstract

The evaluation of postoperative results after surgical correction of craniosynostotic deformities in children is complex and only a few reproducible parameters are defined so far. In general, outcome has to be evaluated according to functional and cosmetic results. Regarding functional outcome, several aspects like the improvement of a preexisting elevated intracranial pressure, visual or ocular impairments, and breathing, hearing, and feeding problems, play an important role. The cosmetic outcome is assessed by subjective evaluation and objective morphometric parameters. Modern imaging techniques like surface scans are increasingly used besides conventional head measurement, CT or MRI scans, and radiographs.
