Obesity, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery

Abstract

The prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing globally. The need for bariatric surgery services worldwide has increased exponentially and a rising number of surgeons that are relatively new to the field are undertaking bariatric and metabolic procedures.

We thus need to develop strategies for effective data collection and analysis to provide benchmarks for surgical outcomes. Clinical registries are a portal that can facilitate this task. They can help establish the benefits of bariatric surgery as a successful means of weight loss and comorbidity improvement.
