Abstract
In the modern era, competition is more intense than ever before as modern business becomes more diversified, bigger, and improved. Therefore, it is crucial to confirm that an organization is providing customers with the best selection of products in order to maintain momentum and compete with its rivals. Companies can only guarantee the quality of deliveries by doing rigorous quality checks in advance. Strong national quality infrastructure with high standards is the only way to accomplish this goal. A strong national measurement system (NMS), quality infrastructure (QI), and stricter metrological regulations and certification in trade and commerce are required due to the fast industrialization, growing demand for more precise measurements, updated technologies, and highly skilled workforce. Any nation that wants to engage in international trade and the exchange of services, especially developing nations like India, must have a strong QI. Through social, strategic, and industrial expansion, the QI is essential to the country’s economic development. The upper organizations in India that are in charge of existing QI are CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (for scientific and industrial metrology), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (for nuclear radiation metrology), Department of Legal Metrology (for legal metrology), Bureau of Indian Standards (for documentary standards and specifications), and National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and National Accreditation Board Certification Bodies (NABCB) under Quality Council of India (for accreditation and certification). In this chapter, the role of quality measurements and relevant Indian infrastructure is briefly discussed. For establishing, implementing, and confirming the quality criteria for goods and services, a QI is an effective tool. For domestic markets to operate effectively as well as to have access and to be recognized on the global stage, high-quality infrastructure is essential. Along with promoting and preserving economic development, it is crucial for social and environmental harmony.
