Die Olympischen Spiele der Neuzeit

Zusammenfassung

In ihrer nun über 100-jährigen Geschichte haben sich die Olympischen Spiele zu einem wesentlichen und einflussreichen Bestandteil der Sportwelt entwickelt. Die Bedeutung der Olympischen Spiele und der Olympischen Bewegung geht allerdings weit über den Kontext des 16-tägigen Sportfests hinaus; sie werden geprägt durch eine enorme ideologische, strukturelle, gesellschaftliche, wirtschaftliche, ethische und politische Komplexität. Einige Kernelemente und Entwicklungsprozesse des Kulturphänomens der modernen Olympischen Spiele werden hier einführend dargestellt. Dabei werden historische und gegenwartsbezogene Zusammenhänge thematisiert und mit Handlungsleitlinien des Internationalen Olympischen Komitees (IOC) verwoben.
