(Post-)Kolonialismus, Autoritarismus und Authentizität: Soziologie in arabischen Gesellschaften

Zusammenfassung

Der Artikel gibt einen Überblick über die institutionelle und die theoretische Entwicklung der Soziologie in verschiedenen arabischen Gesellschaften seit Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts. Zentrale Aspekte sind das Verhältnis zum Staat, zum kolonialen Erbe sowie zur europäischen Soziologie. Gesondert diskutiert werden Versuche, eine eigene ‚arabische‘ oder ‚islamische Soziologie‘ zu etablieren. Gegen partikularistische wie auch universalistische Behauptungen wird deutlich, dass Soziologie in der globalen Gegenwart unterschiedlich legitimiert und ausgestaltet werden kann. Soziologie in arabischen Gesellschaften partizipiert an globalen Theorien und weist zugleich eigene thematische Schwerpunkte und strukturelle Charakteristika auf.
