Zusammenfassung

Der Rat der Europäischen Union ist das zentrale Organ der Regierungen der Mitgliedstaaten, wenn es um die Formulierung, Verhandlung und Implementierung politischer Entscheidungen geht. In der Europäischen Union übt der Rat gemäß dem Lissabonner Vertrag sowohl die Rolle des Gesetzgebers als auch die einer zentralen Koordinierungsinstanz aus. Diese beiden Rollen des Rates bestimmen seine interne Organisation und sein Verhältnis zu den anderen Kerninstitutionen der Union – dem Europäischen Parlament, der Kommission und dem Europäischen Rat.
