Abstract

The prenatal diagnosis of vascular rings has increased with the introduction of the three-vessel view (3VV) and three-vessel trachea view (3VT) into routine obstetrical anatomy ultrasounds. These views demonstrate the relationship of the ductus arteriosus, aorta, and trachea. Loss of the normal 3VV and 3VT view should raise concern for a vascular ring and prompt referral for fetal cardiac assessment. The most common types of vascular rings can be diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound. Early diagnosis of vascular rings allows for appropriate prenatal counseling as well as prenatal genetic testing which is critical secondary to the strong association of vascular rings and genetic abnormalities.
