Pregnancy loss associated with anticardiolipin antibodies.

Full Text

Pregnancy loss is associated with the presence of maternal antiphospholipid antibodies (anticardiolipin antibodies and lupus anticoagulants). The type of pregnancy loss most frequently associated with antiphospholipid antibodies is the unexplained death of a morphologically normal fetus at or beyond 10 weeks gestation. Spontaneous abortions before 10 weeks may also be associated with antiphospholipid antibodies. Fetal death associated with antiphospholipid antibodies is most likely due to insufficient uteroplacental blood flow and fetal hypoxia.
