Abstract.
Proceeding from general considerations about the relation between established and new medias in the history are described the formation and the development of the Internet and the World Wide Web. It is discussed the question, how the euphoric forecasts about the development of these new medias came true and which way this process really took. It is shown, that the thesis of Wolfgang Riepl, that new medias do not displace established medias but open them new uses, also proves right for latest media developments.
