Abstract.
Plant protection products often have a complex composition for optimum efficacy and handling. Evaluation of the identity and the physical-chemical characteristics of the individual components is a major factor in maintaining the product quality. By determining a specification, a minimum standard is given. During the authorisation procedure, extensive data on the characteristics of the active substance and the formulated product are required, which serve to secure efficacy and the protection of operators, consumers and the environment. The requirements which plant protection products have to meet for the purpose of authorisation are continually adjusted to the respective changes in science and technology and the regulatory framework.
