Abstract

First, open questions as well as advantages of zetapotential-measurements are discussed. With the help of experiments it is shown that the methods of streaming potential-streaming current and electro-osmosis measurements yield reproducible results that agree. A new measuring system (EKM) is described. It is shown that with its help and with newly developed measuring cells the surface of polymers can be investigated. Several applications to fibers and flat polymers (foils) are demonstrated, and it is shown how this method can be used to investigate the pK of dissociable groups, the adsorption potential of ions, and preferential adsorption.
