Abstract
Microemulsions are transparent emulsions that from spontaneously when the ingredients are brought into contact. The droplet size varies for different compositions in the range 25-1500A.
The microemulsions may be stabilized by a combination of an ionic surfactant and medium chain length alcohol such as pentanol or with a nonionic surfactant.
In this article, the relation between micellar solutions and microemulsions in such systems is discussed and the basis for the stability of premicellar aggregates in W/O microemulsions is briefly evaluated.
