Abstract
The expression of sexual dimorphism inBison priscus, as found in the metacarpal bone, is comparable to that of extantBison bonasus. This is contradictory to the widely accepted view of Schertz (1936a, b) who found only a small expression of sexual dimorphism inBison priscus. At sites whereBison priscus andBison schoetensacki are found together (Chatillon-Saint-Jean, Mosbach, Mauer) it is considered likely that females ofBison priscus have been erroneously attributed toBison schoetensacki. The validity ofBison schoetensacki is questioned.
