Abstract
The nomenclature for genes for components of the photosynthetic membranes has been reviewed and updated. Newly discovered genes have been added to the existing convention for gene nomenclature. Genes designatedpetA throughpetI are described for components of the photosynthetic electron transport systems, psaA throughpsaK for photosystem I components, andpsbA throughpsbR for photosystem II, including the extrinsic polypeptides of the oxygen-evolving complex. References for representative examples of each gene are given.
