Abstract
Since the first grading machine started commercial production of stress graded timber in the UK in 1969, the UK has probably become more committed to machine grading than any other contry. This paper outlines the historical development of machine grading in the UK and considers current and future progress and the need for international agreements on the use of machines to grade timber.
Zusammenfassung
Seit im Jahre 1969 die erste Festigkeitssortiermaschine ihre praktische Arbeit mit der Produktion von nach Festigkeitsgesichtspunkten sortierten Schnitthölzern aufnahm, hat sich die englische Industrie mehr als wohl in jedem anderen Land diesem Verfahren verpflichtet. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt die historische Entwiklung der Festigkeitssortierung in England dar, beschreibt die gegenwärtig laufenden und die zukünftigen Fortschritte dieses Verfahrens und weist auf die Notwendigkeit internationaler Vereinbarungen für den Gebrauch von Sortiermaschinen dieser Art hin.
