Abstract
The many compressor blades in modern axially staged gas turbines are susceptible to vibration. The energy exciting the vibrations comes from many sources which are discussed. The vibratory stresses generated must be experimentally determined. A new device capable of detecting rotor-blade vibration without contact is described.
