Université Laval, with approximately 900 faculty members, went on strike on 7 September, 1976, and returned to work on 23 December, 1976 after an arbitration which lasted one month. The Syndicat des Professeurs de l'Université du Quebec went on strike at the Université du Quebec à Montréal in 1973, 1976, and 1977. In 1979, the sessional lectures (chargés de cours) were on strike for 48 days. There were also strikes at Université du Quebec à Trois-Rivières in 1975 and a two-day strike at Université de Sherbrooke in 1979. The first strike at a major institution outside Quebec took place at the University of Windsor from 20 to 26 September, 1982.
