Abstract
Sucrose was used as a fuel in a thionine-mediated microbial fuel cell containingProteus vulgaris serving as the biocatalyst in the anode compartment. The measured yields show that under suitable conditions the substrate may be oxidised quantitatively to electricity and carbon dioxide.
