A new method of synthesis of 6-hydroxy-4-methyl-3-cyanopyridin-2[1H]thione has been developed which consists of the reaction ofβ-morpholinoethylcrotonate or its corresponding anilide with cyanothioacetamide.

6-Hydroxy-4-methyl-3-cyanopyridin-2[1H]thione is selectively alkylated at the sulfur atom.
