Summary
The present paper describes the influence of parathormone on the kidney function of normal and parathyroidectomized rats. We obtained the following results:
-
1.
The tubular phosphate reabsorption takes place in the proximal tubule. The reabsorption by the end of the proximal convolution was 13.51 μMol/min·kg. The fractional resorption was 73% (end convolution) and 84% by the end of the proximal tubule.
-
2.
Parathormon inhibits the phosphate reabsorption. In parathyroidectomized animals the fractional resorption by the end of the proximal convolution was 94%.
-
3.
No evidence for net tubular secretion of phosphate was obtained.
-
4.
Investigations using the “split-oil-droplet” method of Gertz showed that parathormone also inhibits the sodium and water reabsorption in the proximal tubule. The percentage of resorption of sodium and fluid was decreased by parathormone from 52 to 37%.
-
5.
Parathormone increased the excretion rates of potassium and amino acids.
-
6.
The glomerular filtration rate in parathyroidectomized rats was not influenced by the parathormone.
