Summary
The Mediterranean sponges Reniera mucosa, Haliclona mediterranea, Reniera fulva, Dendroxea lenis and Reniera sarai and the Caribbean species Callyspongia sp., Niphates digitalis, Niphates sp. and Amphimedon compressa are the subjects of this study of the arrangement of the choanocyte chambers between the canal systems and their relation to the mesenchymal tissue. The phylogenetic significance of the different organizational features is discussed.
