Abstract
An intrinsic problem of studying long-term effects of stress in plants is that stress generally does not influence one process in particular, but concomitantly affects plant growth and development. A change of growth and development can also influence indirectly the process to be studied. A prerequisite for interpreting long-term stress effects on physiological processes in plants therefore, is insight in the effect of age on such processes. Temperature dependent chlorophyll fluorescence induction transients of cucumber leaves show abrupt changes depending on growth temperature and genetic differences (Van Hasselt et al., 1983). This study describes the effect of leaf age in relation with suboptimal temperature stress on temperature dependent changes of chlorophyll fluorescence of cucumber leaves.
