Abstract

The marked growth of scientific knowledge over the past 30 years, and the realisation that science and technology could be harnessed for economic and technological development, have in no small way led science to assume an increasingly important role in education. This is reflected in a growing and coherent body of scientific ideas and principles that have gained acceptance across the world as being appropriate content for inclusion in school science curricula.
