Abstract
As the aim of this ICMI Study is to examine the situation of the current research in mathematics education, I think that it could be useful to look at it from the perspective of an ‘old hand’ and to balance the things that have changed and those that remained the same. Of course, this will be a very personal view; other people may see things very differently.
