Zusammenfassung
Soweit heute bekannt, ist das Integument bei allen Tierarten mit einer mehr oder minder starken Lipidschicht überzogen (1), die je nach Tierklasse vornehmlich zu bestimmten Lipidklassen gehört, z. B. aliphati-sche Kohlenwasserstoffe bei Insekten (2), Wachse bei Vögeln, freie Fettsäuren bei Säugetieren (3). Ihre Funktion ist immer noch Gegenstand von Spekulationen, jedoch scheint die Schutzwirkung gegen Durchnässung und Austrocknung unbestritten. Daneben werden heute Bak-teriostase und Fungistase diskutiert.
