Abstract
Since it was established that electrical stimulation of certain neural systems can have an analgesic effect, neurosurgeons have implanted electrodes in the brain (DBS—deep brain stimulation), over the spinal cord (DCS—dorsal column stimulation) and around peripheral nerves (PNS) in order to treat chronic pain.
