Vor vierzig Jahren bezeichnete einer der frühen Meister des Branding, David Ogilvy (1951), eine Marke als „the consumer’s idea of a product“. Das ist auch heute noch eine gute Definition. Eine Marke unterscheidet ein Produkt oder eine Dienstleistung von ähnlichen Angeboten auf der Basis einzigartiger Eigenschaften, die vom Verbraucher wahrgenommen werden.
