Zusammenfassung
In Märkten mit hoher Wettbewerbsintensität, raschem technologischen Fortschritt, schnellem Bedürfniswandel und hoher Sättigung steht das unternehmerische Produktmanagement vor der Aufgabe, durch Entwicklung und Einführung von Innovationen Wettbewerbsvorteile gegenüber der Konkurrenz zu realisieren (Gälweiler, 1986, S. 149, Albach, 1989). Aus Kosten- und Risikoüberlegungen handelt es sich in den meisten Fällen aber nicht um absolute Neuheiten, sondern um Variationen und Weiterentwicklungen bereits bestehender Produkte bzw. -bei umfangreicher Veränderung- um neue Produktgenerationen. Die Neuprodukteinführung ist ein komplexes, von verschiedenen Faktoren determiniertes Phänomen: Bei der Entscheidung über Art und Zeitpunkt der Einführung sind u.a. die Aktivitäten der Konkurrenz, die mögliche Realisierung von ecomonies of scale, der Zeitaspekt der Produkt- oder Verfahrensentwicklung, eine mögliche Kannibalisierungsgefahr bereits existierender Produkte und v.a. die Wahrnehmung und Akzeptanz bei den Nachfragern zu berücksichtigen.
