Zusammenfassung

Altersepilepsien manifestieren sich definitionsgemäß ab dem 65. Lebensjahr, diese sind von alternden Epilepsien abzugrenzen, die sich in früheren Lebensjahren manifestiert haben und bis ins höhere Alter persistieren. Für Deutschland wird nach den Schätzungen des Bundesamts für Statistik im Jahr 2030 erwartet, dass etwa 30 % der Bevölkerung 65 Jahre oder älter ist. Die Kenntnis der besonderen klinischen, diagnostischen und therapeutischen Gesichtspunkte der Altersepilepsien ist daher besonders wichtig.
